A Quarterly Update From Partners EP Spaces!

We love hearing from our partners in crime, EP Spaces, so when they sent us their quarterly update full of new and exciting developments & opportunities we just had to share a few of them with all of you lovely readers!

For those of you who don’t know already, EP Spaces is Edinburgh Printmakers’ national network of affordable meanwhile spaces for artists and creative communities. They work with landlords through the help of Hammond Associates across Scotland, bringing disused shops, offices, and retail units back to life with new purpose and vitality by creating buzzing creative spaces in the heart of towns and cities that have limited workspaces for arts practitioners.

With locations all across Scotland, EP Spaces invite artists, creative practitioners, collectives, performers, local festival partners, and arts/wellbeing charities from any background to propose creative uses for the spaces, which are used as private and visible studios, rehearsal spaces, workshops, residency studios, storage spaces, and research bases.

So, without further ado, let’s get right into what’s been happening!

Exhibitions at Bulb HQ, Livingston

As well as producing their free seasonal magazine ‘Bulb’, Cathy and Gordon have been very busy in their Livingston space this quarter. In January they presented ‘PLANET A’, a contemporary art and film exhibition featuring work from Cathy Bell, David Hutchison and Pip Denham. In March, they hosted ‘RECYCLE’, a show of collage and 3D pieces made by Scottish artist Robert McCubbin.

In an excerpt, Cathy & Gordon said:  “We find that, along with the magazine we produce, the studio space EP Spaces has provided is helping us to make contact with other creatives. Putting on a programme of exhibitions for the public is a good start to creating an interactive situation which, although a slow process, will be a positive addition to the cultural life of the community within Livingston. We invited art students from West Lothian College to attend the ‘RECYCLE’ exhibition and received great feedback.”

Easter Workshops in Grangemouth

During March, Project Theatre have been hosting Easter themed activities and workshops for aspiring young actors and children in their local community. From Easter bonnet decorating to Encanto themed dance classes, their two Grangemouth spaces have welcomed over 100 children during this period.

“It’s a space to provide classes, workshops and have meetings. There’s room to build/paint props and sets for our productions and events. Members and class participants always let us know they’re enjoying our activities.” – Project Theatre, Grangemouth
