If there’s one thing we at Hammond Associates love, it’s seeing previously empty commercial properties given a new lease of life, just like a former M&S on Sauchiehall Street. Be it a pop-up craft workshop, a charitable hub, or a new art exhibition (to name but a few examples), the artists and charitable organisations that occupy these spaces always find new ways to transform the high-street into an exciting and vibrant community hub – the way it should be.
The former M&S on Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, is currently occupied by over 80 artists who are using the shop floor areas and offices as studio space for a new project thanks to our friends at Outer Spaces have held the lease since December last year.

Some of the many artists showcasing their work include (from left to right) Beth Shapeero, Fibi Cowley, Nicola Atkinson and Pablo Llopis among others, and curious visitors will be able to see the project for themselves next month as part of the Doors Open Day weekend.
An exhibit, titled ‘Please Pay for your Shopping Before Entering the Toilet’, will be held between Friday 15th September and Sunday 17th September 2023.
The former M&S was a landmark on the shopping street since it first opened in 1935 before closing permanently in April 2022, but now it’s back again with a brand-new makeover – ready to host an exclusive art exhibition!
So, if you’re nearby Sauchiehall street mid-September and fancy seeing something new and original, make sure you drop by – you’re not going to be disappointed!
